Written by Steve Englehart, with layouts by Joe Staton and finishes by Ian Gibson.

The space-bound contingent of super-heroes, now a dozen strong, pursues the Highmaster from the wreckage of the planet Orinda. When the leader of the Manhunters turns and attack, he easily overcomes the heroes, then vanishes in search of the Guardians of the Universe. The new Dr. Fate attempts a magic spell which can send the super-heroes to the same extradimensional destination, but due to his inexperience, he does not prepare them properly to survive in that realm, and the costumed champions feel their lives slipping away. In desperation, Fate manages to concentrate the life forces of the twelve in two of the crusaders: Hal Jordan holds those of his fellow Green Lanterns, and Superman embodies the rest. With Dr. Fate now comatose, there is no way to reverse the spell, so Superman and Green Lantern set out to complete their mission. Back on Earth, the Millennium Project proceeds at the Green Lantern Citadel. Following their instruction by the Oans, the Chosen lie meditating.
