Vintage 1961 Bob Clampett's Beany and Cecil Red Vinyl Case

  • Details
What a lovely "Beany and Cecil" bag! I absolutely LOVE this case! The colors are bright and vibrant and the characters just make me smile! It is great shape, especially for being nearly 60 years old! There are a couple of small condition issues, the handle while intact and as strong as every has some wear (small tears in the vinyl) from age and use and the zipper pull is missing but it zips and unzips well.

“Beany and Cecil” was a cartoon series created by artist Bob Clampett, who had previously designed Porky Pig and Tweety Bird for Looney Tunes. As cartoons go, it had a strangely unique style all its own and featured the affable characters Beany the boy and Cecil the sea serpent. The jovial Capt. Huffenpuff and his boat, the Leakin’ Lena, played a major supporting role, and Dishonest John was cast as the ever-vanquished hero, at least in the neighborhood I grew up in. The seafaring animation, which premiered on television in 1962, was actually adapted from the earlier puppet show, “Time for Beany.” Like most popular TV series, its characters were used to market all kinds of merchandise, including comic books, games, character dolls, a disguise kit and a Leakin’ Lena load of other accessories.
